Assembly & Installation Instructions

Warning
The MES-Combox may only be connected and commissioned by qualified personnel with appropriate (electrical) training. For any work, the device must be disconnected from the power supply beforehand. During operation, the control cabinet must always be kept locked and the key must only be made accessible to appropriately authorized personnel. The instructions in the Instruction manual must be observed.

Violations can result in serious injury or even death.

  • The device is suitable for closed rooms at a temperature between 10°C to 35°C and a humidity of maximum 85% (non-condensing).
  • The device must be protected against dripping and splashing water.
  • The device must not be exposed to direct heat sources.
  • Extreme dust accumulations must be avoided.

The MES-Combox is supplied with a German safety plug. This is for test purposes only and must be removed again for commissioning. The MES-Combox is operated with a hard-wired power supply and a back-up fuse (16A/type B). This is connected to terminal block X0. The phase of the power supply (usually the black cable) is connected to terminal 1 (in the figure the terminal with the orange outgoing cable). The neutral conductor (usually blue) is connected to the second terminal (blue outgoing cable) and the protective earth conductor (PE conductor, usually green-yellow) is connected to terminal 3 (green-yellow outgoing cable).

Power supply characteristics:

  • Feed-in: 110-230V AC, 50/60Hz 1-phase.
  • Connected load: 0,26kVA
  • Rated current: 1,1A
  • Max. backup fuse: 16A

The X51 terminal block provides space for 29 sensors. Each input terminal offers three slots. In the illustration, a sensor is connected to terminal 2 as an example. The signal line of the sensor is connected in the top row (here the black cable). In the blue row below, the negative pole (0V) of the sensor is connected (in the example the blue cable). The positive pole (24V) of the sensor (here the brown cable) is connected to the lowest, red, row.
When connecting the sensors it does not matter which sensor is connected to which input. However, it is strongly recommended to document the assignment exactly, e.g. in an Excel table.

Note Protection Class
The Combox is delivered in a control cabinet with protection class IP54. When connecting the sensor system, the network cable and the power cable, care must be taken to ensure that the cables are properly routed to the outside through the existing cable bushings so that the protection class is not reduced.

The control cabinet must be opened at regular intervals by qualified personnel and subjected to a detailed visual inspection. Particular attention should be paid to the following points:

  • Care should be taken to ensure that all cables are tight and no loose cables are present.
  • Any dust that may be present should be carefully removed using a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. In this case, the control cabinet must be checked for leaks.
  • The MES-Combox is equipped with an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The battery storage may fail due to aging. This is indicated by indicator lights on the UPS module. The meanings of the indicator lights and battery replacement are described in the related data sheet.
